Stockholm’s highest skyscraper is going to be made out of wood

If having just wood flooring isn’t enough for you, you’ll probably love this new skyscraper in Sweden.

Designed by Anders Berensson Architects agency, the 40 floors building will be entirely made out of laminated wood – aka CLT –, a material known for its durability. It’s the same wood that’s being used in another building project in Portland, Oregon in the US.

It’s a wonder to see.

The new building, “Trätoppen” – or “Tree Top” – will be built over an already existing parking lot.

“If the goal is to reduce the quantity of cars in Stockholm and, at the same time, creat space for housing without clearing green areas, then replacing parking lots with buildings, stores and restaurants seems to be the best solution,” said Anders Berensson in an interview to Tech Insider.

The parking lot in question is known for exhibiting the number of each floor on its façade.  The architects of the project liked this idea and decided to incorporate it to the new building.

Each floor of the building declares proudly how it’s a part of a bigger structure.

The building will be 133 meters high and will have apartments, a shopping mall, restaurants and private terraces.

The shopping mall and the restaurants will be on the floors 0 through 6; the 7^th will be a public terrace; 8 through 39 will be apartments and the penthouse will be on the 40th floor.

The view from inside will be dazzling.

Each apartment will have, approximately, 260 m².

Berensson’s firm didn’t yet reveal the price of each apartment or when the works will start.

Being the highest skyscraper in Stockholm, the building is also design thinking about energy.

During the day the building will provide shadow on the city, refreshing people on the hottest summer days in Sweden.

When done, the building promises to be astounding and will be, for certain, one of the most beautiful pieces of modern architecture.
