Report on the evolution of wood flooring consumption in Brazil
Since 2014, Ibá (Brazilian Tree Industry) produces an annual report where the evolution of the consumption of wood flooring coating by the Brazilian public is shown, based on data collected by associations and partner companies that produces the products. Brazilian currency is valued and production costs might rise for exporters
Brazilian currency has been increasingly valued over the last twelve months, what might become a reason to worry the wood products exporters. According to ABIMCI (Brazilian Association of the Mechanically Processed Wood Industry), Brazilian currency, which had dropped almost 23% compared to the American Dollar in February 2016, but since then has been getting stronger. Because of that, exporters might expect some complicated moments on the next months. Peru plans reforestation of 3 million hectares until 2020
Peru’s Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, José Manuel Hernández, has announced that by 2020 the National Forestry and Wildlife Service, with the support of other bodies in the Ministry such as Agrorural and INIA (National Institute of Agricultural Innovation, in free translation) aims to reforest 3,2 million hectares of degraded land. The Minister said reforestation is essential for the government’s agrarian policy. Several initial programs are already underway in Amazonas, Apurímac, San Martín and Piura. Forest plantations are also being placed in degraded areas such as Áncash, Huánuco, Junín, Pasco and Ucayal.
Importers were warned about the illegality of the teak from Myanmar
First Sweden, then Denmark and now the UK Timber Trade Federation (TTF) have warned buyers that they are breaking laws by importing teak from Myanmar. TTF were even tougher and demanded a response from European Union. According to NEPCon, a Danish non-profit organization, has asked seven Danish companies to adopt diligence systems if they want to keep selling teak from Myanmar in Europe. NEPCon says that authorities audited some companies that imported teak from Myanmar after being notified by the Environmental Investigation Agency. Using reuse woods, Henrique Paim creates unique art pieces using only his talent and intuition.
